About Petrol Rates

Petrol Rates shows you what petrol and diesel actually cost at forecourts near you, right now, so you can fill up somewhere cheaper without driving round looking.

Why we built it

Fuel prices in the UK can vary by 10p a litre or more between stations a couple of miles apart. That's £5 on a tank, every time. Until recently the only way to find the cheap one was luck, local knowledge, or a price board you'd already driven past.

That changed when the Government started requiring fuel retailers to publish their prices. We built Petrol Rates to turn that data into something quick and useful: type a postcode or a town, and see every nearby station sorted by price.

What you'll find here

  • A live map of every station near you, cheapest first, with a price history for each one.
  • Pages for towns and regions across the UK, so you can see what's cheap where you live or where you're heading.
  • Weekly reports and comparisons looking at national averages, supermarkets, motorway services and how prices move by region.
  • A blog answering the questions people ask us, worked out from the data rather than guessed.

Independent, and free

We're not owned by a fuel retailer, supermarket or oil company, and nobody pays to be listed or ranked higher. Every station is shown, sorted by its price and nothing else.

The site is free to use and doesn't need an account.

Where the numbers come from

Our prices come from the UK Government's Fuel Finder scheme. You can read exactly how we get our prices, how often they update, and how we work out the figures in our reports.
